The moment you realize that he is just another power addicted, ruthless, immoral characters of the show, he does something odd that bewilders the audience about his true nature.
Jon Snow
Well, Jon Snow has always been an integral part of Game of Thrones since the beginning. Being the bastard son of Ned Stark, he was one of those characters, who can get the sympathy of the audience. With Robb Stark already in contention for being the righteous leader for the ultimate throne, Jon Snow was often sidelined in the earlier part of the series after he joins the Night’s Watch at The Wall. However, after the death of Robb Stark in Season 3 and Bran Stark still a kid, Ned Stark’s illegitimate son surprised us all becoming one of the frontrunners of the show and the prime contenders for the throne. Daenerys Targaryen
Daenerys Targaryen is the exiled princess of Targaryen dynasty and the Khaleesi, a queen of the Dothraki. Under her exterior beauty and charm lies a dominant, ambitious and angry woman, who will go miles to seek revenge for her ancestors as well as fulfil the dream of conquering the Seven Kingdoms and claiming the Iron Throne as foreseen by her dead husband Khal Drogo. Although, she has a huge army of the Dothraki tribe, her major power lies in the three dragons, which were hatched out of the eggs gifted to during her marriage. With the help of her people and now fully grown dragons, she builds a strong army strong by freeing the slaves as she marches towards Westeros for the ultimate encounter. The character is played by Emilia Clarke.
Arya Stark
If there is one character among this top list of Game of Thrones characters, who is a true fighter, then it has to be Arya Stark. Considering the journey she has travelled throughout the six seasons, there should be no doubts that she is a tough kid and the creators of the show have some grand plans for this character in the future. The third child of Eddard Stark and Catelyn Stark, Arya was always a tomboy and spends most of her time learning archery and other fighting skills rather than getting expertise on sewing with a needle. She is brave, smart and prefers to follow her instinct that has helped her to survive through the challenges that came along since she escaped from the clutches of the Lannisters after her father is arrested and executed. Looking for her sister and brothers, she is fighting hard against the odds and learning to be the ultimate survivor of the show.
Eddard Stark
Well, Game of Thrones is highly popular for its spectacular twists with sudden and shocking deaths of central characters of the series. Among all the deaths of main GoT characters till now, the death of Eddard ‘Ned’ Stark was the most disturbing and appalling altogether. Being the best friend of the late King Robert Baratheon, Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North, he was one of the most important characters and the main protagonist of the series in its first season. However, things took an ugly turn, as is the case with Game of Thrones throughout its reign, Ned Stark gets executed in front of the people of Westeros for treachery and plotting against the King.
Cersei Lannister
Cersei Lannister is the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. Although, audiences may not find her character to be morally correct, she is nevertheless one of the strongest woman characters of the show alongside the likes of Daenerys Targaryen and Melisandre. She is also in an incestuous relationship with her twin brother Jaime Lannister, who has fathered all her three children. Being ultimately loyal to her father Tywin Lannister, her three children and Jaime, she mainly plots and influences people throughout the season to gain power and rule over the Seven Kingdoms. When the truth of her sexually explicit relationship with his siblings is revealed, she is punished by The High Sparrow to walk naked through the streets of King’s Landing after being shaved.
Joffrey Baratheon
If there’s any award for the most hated GoT character, then it has to be Joffrey Baratheon. He was mocked, trolled, and insulted all over the internet as one of the ruthless, dumb ass, cowardly character within the show. Initially being the Crown Prince and later the King of the Seven Kingdoms, Joffrey acted as a mere puppet of her mother at the beginning. However, as he explored the new realms of his power, he became arrogant, self-obsessed, moronic ruler, whose only ambition is the self-entertainment he gets by torturing and mocking his Uncle Tyrion Lannister, and Sansa Stark. He was also responsible for the shocking death of Ned Stark, when he orders his execution in front of the people of Kings Landing for his own entertainment.
Jaime Lannister
The twin brother of Cersei, Jaime Lannister is the kindest and most honourable person from the entire Lannister family. He truly loves his sister Cersei, with whom he also has developed an incestuous relationship over the years that resulted into fathering all of her three children. Although, a powerful member of the Kingsguard, nobody believes that he deserves the position as he broke his oath by killing the previous King, Aerys II, whom he sworn to protect. He also cares highly for his brother Tyrion, despite the objections of Cersei. He often looked up to Ned Stark as he considered him as a great warrior and his equal. While he was send off by Catelyn Stark in the company of Brienne of Tarth’s watch to the King’s Landing in exchange for her daughters, both Jaime and Brienne are captured by violent Locke, a man-at-arms under Roose Bolton. Just for mere fun to display his power, Locke cuts off Jaime’s sword hand, which results in one of the most humiliating phases of his life. However, he learns to fight with the sword with his left hand under the training of Bronn.

Melisandre
Melisandre is the evil priestess of R’hllor and has magical powers that she uses to aid Stannis Baratheon to claim the Iron Throne after the death of his elder brother and King Robert Baratheon. Popularly known as “The Red Woman”, she also has prophetic powers that help her foresee the future partially and believes that Stannis is the chosen one, who will be the key to influence the people of Westeros in following R’hllor. Most importantly, she is the one that revives Jon Snow after his untimely and shocking death in the Season 5 finale.
Margaery Tyrell
Any character from Game of Thrones, who could match the wickedness and treachery of Cersei Lannister is Margaery Tyrell. She is the only daughter of Lord Mace Tyrell and is the wife of King Robert’s younger brother Renly Baratheon. Her cunningness and plot to take over the power from Cersei is revealed throughout the show as she makes her moves perfectly to fix a marriage with Cersei’s son and now King Joffrey. However, her ploy fails as Joffrey is poisoned and killed at the wedding. Yet, she keeps moving forward with her plan and tries to lure the next King, Cersei’s younger son Tommen and finally gets married to him and becomes the Queen of Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. While following Cersei’s path and matching her cunningness and ruthlessness, Margaery Tyrell also results in the same fate as her as she is arrested by the High Sparrow after she wrongly testifies about her brother’s homosexual activities.
